N.C. Gov. Stands up to Bathroom Bullies!

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory on Monday dismissed criticism of a controversial new law blocking Charlotte’s bathroom ordinance as “political theater” that he says is concocted by left-wing activists, accusing them of a “calculated smear campaign” that included threatening local businesses to oppose the measure. On Wednesday, the General Assembly will convene in Raleigh for a special session to discuss a controversial Charlotte ordinance that requires places of public accommodation to allow anyone to use whatever restroom they choose based on their self-identified gender. In passing this “non-discrimination” law, however, the city of Charlotte purported to exercise power that it simply does not have. The constitution, statutes, and case law of North Carolina make this clear.

The ordinance has faced strong opposition on both common sense and public safety grounds – common sense in that men should not be allowed in women’s restrooms, and public safety in that the ordinance creates a situation where it is impossible to police whether men with illicit motives are entering women’s restrooms.
