Religious liberty is under attack and the 45-year-old Roe v. Wade decision still keeps abortion legal, yet there are many reasons for hope, according to Mary Hallan FioRito, Cardinal Francis George Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center. FioRito is the keynote speaker at Lake County Right to Life's Benefit Banquet on July 27, 6 p.m., at the DoubleTree in Mundelein, Illinois. Her presentation, "Religious Liberty: How It Weaves Through Our Lifetime," will tackle controversy and current events as she examines the social and political environment of abortion, in light of recent Supreme Court decisions and the Catholic Church's teachings regarding the dignity of human life. She will share insights on the recent United States Supreme Court support for the rights of pro-life pregnancy centers (NIFLA v. Becerra), offer a 50th anniversary retrospective on Pope Paul VI's encyclical on contraception and married life, and offer ways that the pro-life community can address future threats with confidence and facts. The event is free, but a financial appeal will be made. Reservations are required.
