Abortion Lobby & Their Slick Sales Techniques

The Assumptive Close: Don’t give the option of saying “No.”

Ask the woman when she wants to schedule an appointment, leaving the issue of whether she wants an abortion in limbo. Once they’re at the facility, just process them as if they’d asked for an abortion rather than as if they’re just going down the path of least resistance.  Another approach would be asking if she prefers a medical or surgical abortion, what kind of anesthesia she wants, etc., never directly addressing whether or not she wants an abortion. realchoiceblogspot.com

The Bandwagon

This is the strategy behind the “I Had an Abortion” t-shirts, the “One in Three” campaign, and every other “de-stigmatizing” or “de-mystefying” campaign. The goal is to convince women that abortion is a perfectly normal part of life, a choice routinely made by other women just like them. Nancy Howell Lee’s research, published as “The Search for an Abortionist” found that the greatest factor in whether a woman pursued an abortion or continued to term was what she believed her peers would do if they were in her situation. Clearly, the abortion lobby doesn’t want to rely on the off-chance that the woman will be surrounded by others who have given birth. Thus, the campaigns to convince women that abortion is exactly what any other woman would do in her situation.

The BYAF (But You Are Free) Technique

This approach stresses that the person is perfectly free to NOT choose the desired abortion. The entire “pro-choice” movement is a macro-example. However, individual abortion centers also use this technique via the promise of “options counseling.” The woman is assured that she’s just coming in to explore her options, but once her foot is in the door she is far more likely to continue the path she’s already on — toward an abortion.

Use of Inclusive Language

This typically takes the form of the macro-sale, in which the abortion lobby presents abortion facilities and practitioners as part of the “woman and her doctor” team looking out for the woman’s best interests, also creating a “them” out of anybody who might disapprove of abortion in general or this woman’s abortion in particular.  This comes into play in individual cases with “informed consent” and waiting period laws, in which the clinic again paints the Other as trying to meddle in the relationship between the woman and the clinic staff.

Repeating Key Phrases

“Right to choose” doesn’t really mean anything by itself. Choose what? But saturation of “your body, your choice,” in the culture reinforces the idea that the woman is acting with maximum freedom and independence when choosing abortion rather than birth, even if (as is typical) the woman feels that she is trapped and has no actual choice in the matter.

Alter casting: Putting the person in a role and then presenting the desired act as the natural behavior of somebody in this role

This is primarily macro-oriented. The “Good women have abortions” campaign. Campaigns about how women have abortions in order to be better mothers, better workers, better partners, etc. These desirable women are then contrasted with the welfare mother that nobody wants to be. If you’re somebody who is in control of her life, who is responsible, yada yada yada, then clearly you will choose abortion!  This also plays out regarding teens. Note how a pregnant teenager is painted in two contrasting roles. If she continues to term she is yet another example of “babies having babies,” whereas if she aborts she is a woman making a choice.

Sounding as if you can read the woman’s mind

This gives the impression that you understand and are knowledgeable. Of course, anybody with two brain cells to rub together will know that a woman making an abortion appointment is worried about her future, wondering if she’s doing the right thing, etc. By stating these obvious facts, the worker gains emotional footage with the woman.

Love Bombing

Odds are that the woman considering an abortion is feeling very alone and isolated. Abortion ads and “counseling” techniques focus on reassuring the woman that the abortion staff are there for her, to support her and love her, etc. The fact that this purportedly caring relationship will end the moment the woman is discharged from the facility has no emotional reality. The woman feels as if the clinic staff care for her, and that feeling can clinch the sale.

Fear Then Relief

Ramp up the woman’s fears. Does she fear that her parents will be angry? That her boyfriend will leave her? That she won’t be able to finish school? That she’ll lose her job? Let the counseling deeply explore everything the woman fears, then present abortion as the escape pod.

This also cashes in on the fact that fear of losing something that you already have is a more powerful motivator than the prospect of gaining something that you don’t have yet.

This is why the abortion lobby hates pre-abortion ultrasounds so much. If the woman fully emotionally grasps the reality of her unborn baby, then abortion becomes the loss of the baby. Most mothers will risk everything else, including their lives, for their children. The prospective abortion patient who has had a chance to bond with her baby is difficult to close in a sale.

10 rapists Planned Parenthood has Helped

Ignoring signs of abuse is nothing new at America’s largest abortion chain, which is why I’ve made a list of my own. So without further adieu, here are 10 child rapists that were helped by Planned Parenthood. Liveactionnews.org

FILE PHOTO Participants in the 25th Annual Florida Respect Life Conference and related youth conference participate in a prayer walk for life in front of the Planned Parenthood Regional Headquarters in downtown Sarasota on Oct. 15. More than 400 people participated in the walk. More than 650 participated in the two conferences which were held at St. Martha school and Parish.

Keep in mind that shame and fear cause many victims to remain silent. The truth is, there’s no way to know just how many crimes Planned Parenthood has helped cover up.

So, how can we stop this type of rape enablement? Not funding it would be a good start. Tell Congress that Planned Parenthood’s half billion dollar subsidy should go to federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) and community health centers (CHCs) instead. Not only are they more accessible, they also offer services Planned Parenthood won’t. Last year, FQHCs performed over five hundred thousand mammograms. Planned Parenthood? Zero.

One of Those Clinics that Closed in Texas

Women’s rights activists and their media friends might want to investigate individual abortion clinics before lamenting their closure. Here’s a bit of history about one of those now-closed clinics. realchoice.blogspot.com

Denise Montoya was fifteen years old when her parents brought her to Women’s Pavillion in Houston for an abortion on May 13, 1988. Denise was 25 weeks pregnant.

The abortion was performed by Douglas Karpen, an osteopath. Denise suffered severe bleeding, and was admitted to Ben Taub hospital. Her condition deteriorated, and she died on May 29, 1988.

Her parents filed suit against Karpen and the clinic, saying that they had failed to adequately explain the risks of the procedure, and had not provided consent forms, or had the parents sign any informed consent document, prior to the fatal abortion.

One Judge in America Still Believes in Man Woman Marriage

The Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission forwarded charges to the commission, accusing the chief justice of violating judicial ethics in his opposition to same-sex marriage.  www.al.com

Moore’s actions led the Southern Poverty Law Center to file complaints with the commission, which acts much in the same way as a grand jury. When it receives a complaint, the commission investigates and decides whether to forward charges to the Alabama Court of the Judiciary.

Moore said he was ready to fight what he called the LGBT agenda.

“The Judicial Inquiry Commission has no authority over the administrative orders of the chief justice of Alabama or the legal injunctions of the Alabama Supreme Court prohibiting probate judges from issuing same-sex marriage licenses,” Moore said. “The Judicial Inquiry Commission has chosen to listen to people like Ambrosia Starling, a professed transvestite and other gay, lesbian and bisexual individuals, as well as organizations that support their agenda.”

“Sexual and Reproductive Health” Goes Worldwide

A group of lawmakers pushed for access to abortion and “sexual and reproductive health” to be included as a topic of concern at this year’s Summit. A recent conference sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) paid for a gaggle of pro-abortion lawmakers to assemble in Japan to pressure the G7 to support of radical pro-abortion policy.  www.pop.org

An agreement among G7 leaders to promote “sexual and reproductive health”—including abortion—could well lead to increased funding for abortion overseas. It might also see G7 leaders using their influence with lawmakers in their home countries to loosen restrictions on abortion there as well.

Agreements among world leaders at the G7 Summit are not legally binding, to be sure. But even as G7 leaders agreed only through a non-binding declaration to promote SRH and abortion around the world, funding and support for SRH will continue and perhaps increase. The womb will become a more dangerous place.

Are Small Acts of Cowardice Destroying Our Culture?

One of his New York City readers wrote in to say that her 14-year-old daughter had just finished dressing in a city locker room when a grown man stepped from the showers wearing only a towel.  Girls as young as seven were present, and they were staring at the man with “concerned expressions.”  The reader ends her e-mail with, “It sucks to be a parent these days.” www.catholiceducation.org  – David French. “Small Acts of Cowardice Are Destroying Our Culture.” National Review Online (May 2, 2016).

And indeed it does suck, especially when you know that even your friends and alleged allies are simply too timid to act.  Dreher describes speaking to parents who tried to organize resistance to new “trans” bathroom policies but found they “couldn’t get anybody interested.”  I’ve had the same conversation with other frustrated parents.  They look for help in the fight — even from people who they know oppose this idiocy — and no one will stand up.

This is how culture wars are lost: through the slow accumulation of individually defensible but collectively unjustifiable decisions not to resist.  It’s the decision that objecting during diversity training simply isn’t worth the hassle.  It’s the decision not to say anything when you see a colleague or fellow student facing persecution because of their beliefs.  It’s a life habit of always taking the path of least resistance, keeping your head down, and doing your best to preserve your own family and career.  The small fights don’t matter anyway, right?

Jail Time in Phoenix If They Don’t Serve Gay Weddings

Two Christian artists in Phoenix are taking a stand against a city ordinance before the city has a chance to enforce it against them. www.onenewsnow.com

A lawsuit filed in Arizona claims a city ordinance forces local artists to use their talents to promote same-sex weddings and does not allow them to express freely their belief that marriage is between one man and one woman.

Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative, Christian legal organization, filed a pre-enforcement challenge to Phoenix’s city code May 12 for Breanna Koski and Joanna Duka, owners of Brush & Nib Studio based in Phoenix, Ariz. dailysignal.com

“Artists don’t give up their freedom of speech and freedom from coercion when they enter into their art studio,” Scruggs asserts. “Government can’t censor artists or demand that they create art that violates their deepest and sincerely held convictions.” www.alliancedefendingfreedom.org

United Methodists Back Away from Supporting Abortion

United Methodists have voted to require church boards and agencies to withdraw immediately from an organization that advocates for abortion on demand. Delegates from across the 12.1 million-member denomination adopted a proposal concluding affiliation with the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (RCRC) on a vote of 425 to 268 (61 percent to 39 percent) during their quadrennial General Conference meeting in Portland, Oregon. www.lifenews.com – Full Article

Two United Methodist agencies, the General Board on Church and Society (GBCS) and United Methodist Women (UMW) are coalition members of RCRC.

The legislation’s rationale states that RCRC “is a one-sided political lobby that opposes all disapproval or limitation of abortion. RCRC’s advocacy often directly contradicts our Social Principles on abortion, but it still uses our Church’s name. Several annual conferences and many United Methodist leaders have urged the Church to end all association with RCRC.”

Teacher Attacked After Sharing Pro Life Message

Dear Friends of Life,

Many of you have heard about the controversy surrounding a pamphlet handed out by Mr. Gavin Ahern, a long-time personal friend, pro-life advocate and teacher of theology at Xavier College Preparatory (XCP) in Phoenix, one of our distinguished Diocesan Catholic High Schools.  If you have not, this media story will update you. – www.fox10phoenix.com – Article – www.phoenixnewtimes.com – Full Article – onemadmomblog – Article

An original petition was produced to call for Gavin’s job.  You can find a counter-petition begun by two of Gavin’s current students here. www.thepetitionsite.com

I would like you to see the full statement by XCP here.  It is a model of clear and faithful communication in the face of an ill-informed media blitz.

p-gavin-ahern1-570x“Xavier College Preparatory is a Roman Catholic educational institution, fully committed to a belief in God according to the tenets of the Roman Catholic faith. That faith forms the very foundation of the mission: “to prepare young women with the knowledge, skills, and integrity to meet the challenges of a changing global society in a positive and productive manner.” Without our commitment to our faith, we cannot hope to achieve this vital Catholic mission.

“As an educational institution, Xavier recognizes that certain issues may be the subject of vigorous intellectual, spiritual, and moral debate. We encourage our faculty and students to explore these often controversial issues, and to participate in this healthy and constructive process as Xavier strives to educate students not only academically, but also spiritually and morally within the context of our faith.

“Among the most important, most fundamental spiritual and moral truths that Xavier imparts to its students is respect for the sanctity of human life, in all forms and at all stages. We teach our students to care for human life, to defend human life, and to speak out about the sanctity of every human life wherever it is threatened, from the first moment of conception until natural death.

We acknowledge the emotions that discussion on such matters can often evoke, and recognize that disagreements may result, even among members of the Xavier community. Nevertheless, Xavier will not allow the threat of controversy to intimidate our teachers, counselors, and administrators from discussing these important controversial issues, nor silence us in our duty to impart the values of our faith to the young women entrusted to our care.”

We can all be very proud of this statement and the strong backing of Mr. Ahern by Sr. Joan Fitzgerald, BVM and Sr. Joanie Nuckols, BVM.

This is Catholic leadership at its finest!  I encourage you to pray right away for all involved and to consider signing the counter-petition and adding a message of support for Xavier’s courageous administration and Gavin Ahern, a good man and excellent teacher of the Faith who has been forming youth and adults in two Diocesan formation programs in addition to his teaching at XCP.

The Little Sisters are winning in a blowout.

Dear Friends, It has been a buzzing day.

The Supreme Court issued a unanimous order that had two key outcomes:

  1. The Court accepted the government’s concession– 4 years in the making– that it could change things around to that the Sisters are not forced to violate their faith.
  2. The government cannot fine the Sisters. The Little Sisters are protected from being forced to pay fines or violate their faith.

Are we going back to a lower court? Yes.  – becketfundcommunity.org – Full Article

But the Supreme Court threw out every single ruling against the Little Sisters and told the lower courts to try again.

In sports terms, it is a punt that has left the Little Sisters with fantastic field position. It’s first and goal on the one yard line. The Little Sisters are winning in a blowout. And it’s the fourth quarter. Soon enough, it will be game over, Little Sisters win.

You and I know this is something that should have happened 4 years ago when we first heard of the mandate and submitted our comments asking for religious groups and ministries to be protected from it. Today, the Supreme Court agreed with us.
